This old Spanish technique was refined by Sala. The method was originally inspired by a poor Spanish painter in the 19th century. The starving artist would re-use already texturized canvases – creating a luminous effect by using a dark toned background paired with a far lighter shade on top. Sala's technique has evolved over time and now integrates a little more colour. Emphasis is still put on darker tones.
